If I could wish the Kingslayer back in chains I would. You freed him without my knowledge or consent… but what you did, I know you did for love. For Arya and Sansa, and out of grief for Bran and Rickon. Love’s not always wise, I’ve learned. It can lead us to great folly, but we follow our hearts… wherever they take us. Don’t we, Mother?
This is the moment in which it all could have ended. The war for the five kings. Peace was almost there. Peace for the Starks to reunite and rule peacefully in the North after defeating the Lannisters. Renly’s victory over Stannis was clear and everything could have taken the right turn and I don’t doubt Renly would have been a good king. But this is ASoIaF and it’s GRRM. Easy solutions are never real and they always get screwed up. This is one of the reasons why I love and hate this series so much. The moment you start thinking things are going one way, everything turns out into a complete different way, taking on its way characters we had ended up liking or having. Because in the Game of Thrones, you win or you die, there is no middle ground.
